Saudi Arabia Aims to Grow Poultry Sector to Cover 80% of Local Consumption
Saudi Arabia is aiming to achieve 80% self-sufficiency in poultry production within three years, while also transitioning into a regional export hub, according to Assistant Undersecretary at the Ministry of Environment, Water, and Agriculture, Ali Al-Sheikhi.
In an interview with Asharq, Al-Sheikhi noted that the Kingdom has allocated $4.5 billion in investments for the poultry sector, which has recorded 30% growth over the past five years. He pointed out that the growth of the tourism sector has increased investor appetite to inject capital into the poultry industry, which benefits from integrated local supply chains.
He also revealed that Saudi Arabia will witness a surge in investments in meat and fish production in the coming phase. Five companies plan to establish large-scale farms for meat production, each with a capacity of up to one million heads. Additionally, local fish production is expected to meet 60% of the market’s needs.
