First use in Syria of laser beak-trimming technology in hatcheries for broiler and layer parent chicks

Mr. Atif Abdel Baqi, Commercial Director of Layer Chick Sales at Al-Sayyad Poultry Company, stated that the company’s sales of white and brown layer chicks will exceed 4 million chicks in 2025, marking a slight increase over 2024, when sales reached 3.9 million, and an increase of 400,000 chicks compared to 2023.
In response to a question from Al-Dawagen Magazine about their sales plan for 2026, Mr. Abdel Baqi said:
“Our plan for next year is to sell 6.8 million layer chicks from the Lohmann and Hy-Line strains—an increase of 2.8 million chicks over this year—to meet the needs of the liberated northern and eastern regions of Syria.”
When asked about what’s new at Al-Sayyad Poultry, one of the leading poultry companies in Syria, Lebanon, and Jordan, Abdel Baqi explained:
“On June 1, 2025, we began trimming the beaks of broiler parent chicks at one day old inside the hatchery using a very advanced laser machine for beak trimming and automatic vaccination. Our company is the first in Syria to introduce this technology. As for beak trimming of layer chicks at one day old, it is currently under testing and is expected to be officially implemented in the last quarter of 2025.”
He added that the importance of this laser machine lies in its ability to enhance biosecurity in poultry farms and reduce the burden on farmers of layer and broiler parent flocks. Previously, manual beak trimming operations—carried out by mobile crews without proper biosecurity measures—contributed significantly to the spread of diseases between farms.
It is worth noting that Al-Sayyad Poultry Company, headquartered in Homs, is one of the largest poultry companies in Syria.
Founded in 1970 for the breeding of broiler chicks, the company initially used the most recognized poultry strains available at the time. From the start, its strong reputation helped it evolve and move into the second phase—breeding broiler parent flocks.
As in the first stage, credibility, trust, and integrity led to a third phase in 1998, during which the company began breeding grandparent stock of the world-renowned ROSS 308 strain, one of Aviagen’s major achievements and a breed known for its outstanding performance globally, especially in the Middle East.
In early 2007, Al-Sayyad Poultry expanded into breeding and distributing white and brown layer chicks, one day old, from two of the world’s most important strains: Lohmann (white and brown) and Hy-Line (white and brown).
