The Saudi Ministry of Environment, Water, and Agriculture announced today the launch of a poultry grandparent (GP) project in the Al-Jouf region, implemented by Aviagen Arabia, with total investments amounting to USD 200 million (SAR 750 million).

According to the Ministry’s statement, the project aims to localize the poultry grandparent production industry and strengthen the food security system within Saudi Arabia’s poultry sector, in line with the goals of Saudi Vision 2030.
The project’s targeted annual production capacity is 15 million parent stock (PS) chicks, with the flexibility to expand according to market needs. Aviagen Arabia will operate the entire production chain independently to ensure fast decision-making and achieve the highest standards of quality and productivity.
The project will establish an integrated system that includes grandparent farms (GP) and supporting facilities such as a central hatchery, feed mill, and specialized laboratory. This comes as part of a long-term plan to expand poultry parent and grandparent farms across the Kingdom, thereby enhancing national production and improving local supply chain efficiency.
The Ministry noted that Al-Jouf was chosen for its suitable climate, compliance with biosecurity standards, and logistical accessibility, making it an ideal location for sustainable operations and production efficiency.
The project is expected to create over 500 direct and indirect job opportunities and support economic development in northern Saudi Arabia by attracting international expertise and localizing advanced poultry production technologies.
Aviagen is a global leader in supplying poultry parent stock chicks, operating in over 130 countries, and holds approximately 67% of the world’s poultry breeding assets.
