President of the Republic, General Joseph Aoun, received a delegation from the Lebanese Poultry Syndicate at Baabda Palace, led by Mr. Wiliam Boutros, who briefed him on the current state of the poultry sector amid the prevailing conditions.
During the meeting, Boutros emphasized the sector’s social and economic significance, noting that “the poultry sector in Lebanon comprises approximately 2,000 farms and 60 factories distributed across all regions of the country, with a production capacity exceeding 120 million birds annually. It also provides direct and indirect employment for more than 36,000 families.”
He explained that “last year, the national poultry sector strategy was launched in partnership with the Ministries of Agriculture, Economy, and Industry, aiming to develop the sector and its related industries, which would generate around 53,000 new job opportunities and increase the sector’s contribution to the national economy by nearly $1.5 billion.”
Boutros requested President Aoun’s support to implement this strategy, which requires no government spending, by expediting the adoption of regulatory decisions and measures from the relevant ministries and authorities.
President Aoun highlighted the importance of Lebanon’s poultry production sector and the figures it has achieved in past years. He stressed the need to continue providing high-quality and safe products that enhance trust in this sector and in all Lebanese products.
He noted that the strategy presented by the delegation would receive attention from relevant officials, particularly the Ministers of Agriculture, Health, Economy, and Industry, to elevate the production sector to a higher level.
President Aoun also emphasized that he and the government are working to secure additional Arab and international markets for Lebanese exports by removing obstacles that arise in this regard.
He affirmed that the reputation of Lebanese products abroad continues to improve day by day, thanks to the efforts of workers across various production sectors to present a positive image of Lebanon and strengthen the Lebanese economy.
