The Media Center of the Ministry of Agriculture and Land Reclamation published a report highlighting the ministry’s key efforts in implementing the state’s strategy to achieve food security and promote sustainable agricultural development during the period from March 26 to April 1.

Supporting Farmers with Fair Prices
Alaa Farouk, Minister of Agriculture and Land Reclamation, outlined before the Agriculture Committee of the House of Representatives the main features of the ministry’s strategy. The plan targets the procurement of around 5 million tons of wheat during the current season, while supporting farmers with fair prices. It also aims to increase agricultural productivity by up to 20% through rationalizing water use and expanding modern farming systems. The plan further includes upgrading agricultural mechanization by introducing 5,000 modern machines and expanding contract farming to cover approximately 700,000 feddans.

Providing Technical Support to Fruit and Vegetable Farmers
As part of on-the-ground support, the ministry intensified its advisory and monitoring efforts across various governorates. Extensive field visits were carried out to follow up on strategic crops, particularly in Aswan, in addition to monitoring greenhouses and providing technical support to fruit and vegetable farmers in Giza, Beheira, and Nubaria. Agricultural directorates also continued field inspections of agricultural cooperatives to ensure the proper distribution of subsidized fertilizers to eligible farmers, alongside preparations to activate the electronic payment system.

Intensifying Inspection Campaigns
Regarding market regulation, the ministry emphasized intensifying inspection campaigns to control the fertilizer and pesticide systems. The General Authority for Veterinary Services seized more than 156 tons of non-compliant meat, poultry, and fish, issuing 961 violation reports during March. The Central Laboratory for Pesticides also continued its regulatory and research role, analyzing more than 17,000 samples in the first quarter of the year, thereby strengthening food safety systems and enhancing the competitiveness of Egyptian agricultural exports.

Training Technical Cadres
The Agricultural Pesticides Committee held a meeting to develop its electronic portal and train technical staff, alongside issuing 1,390 various publications to serve the sector during March. The Central Laboratory for the Analysis of Pesticide Residues and Heavy Metals in Food also witnessed intensive activity, including the analysis of 8,682 samples, receiving visits from export companies and university students, and active participation in workshops and international meetings on crop sustainability, food safety, and artificial intelligence technologies.
