The U.S. Department of Agriculture's Agriculture Research Service (ARS) today announced a groundbreaking treatment that prevents anemia, weight loss, poor wool and meat production, and even death in sheep.
ARS researchers partnered with Virginia Tech and the University of Massachusetts' Medical School to solve H. contortus parasite infection, which also happens to be the number one health problem in the U.S. sheep industry. The parasite infects the stomach of ruminant mammals, feeding and interfering with digestion, before ultimately affecting the animal's overall health and stability.

Bluestar Adisseo Company (“Adisseo”) announces that it has completed the acquisition of FRAmelco Group, a Dutch feed additive company (meaning FRAnklin Group BV and its wholly owned subsidiaries – hereafter “FRAmelco”). This transaction contributes to Adisseo’s strategy to become one of the worldwide leaders of specialty additives in animal nutrition.

New exhibition dates: 7th- 9th June 2021 – trade fair to offer exhibition with extensive technical programme, covering current topics in livestock production (DLG). DLG International today announced the postponement of the EuroTier Middle East to 7th-9th June 2021. DLG International, the organizer of the trade fair, in close coordination with the Abu Dhabi Agriculture and Food Safety Authority (ADAFSA), strategic partner of EuroTier Middle East, have taken the difficult decision to postpone the trade fair. This is due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic and the resulting travel and social distancing regulations.

Chelcee Hindman and Lamar Rider are joining the Findlay (Ohio) headquartered North America organization. Royal Pas Reform has announced the appointment of Paul Smits as the company’s new CEO. Smits is currently Vice President and Managing Director of the Instruments and Controls Group (ICG) of CTB – which includes the Dutch livestock-farming technology business Fancom BV.

Smits, 57, brings more than 25-years poultry sector experience to the role, an important part of which has been gained with Fancom. Commenting on his appointment he says: “I am very much looking forward to working with Royal Pas Reform and using my skills to help drive this dynamic, hard-working company to further extend its strong global presence.”

Medicated zinc oxide plays a huge role in husbandry to prevent post-weaning diarrhoea. However, stricter regulation in Europe and around the world mean the feed additives industry is stepping up research efforts in this area. The ban of zinc oxide in the European Union is restricted to medicated feeds which are prescribed by veterinarians. This does not apply to the nutritional usage of zinc oxide which remains the dominant source of zinc utilised by the feed industry.

After thoughtful and thorough consideration, show management for the International Production & Processing Expo (IPPE) has made the difficult decision to not hold the in-person component of IPPE 2021 in Atlanta, scheduled for Jan. 26-28. The decision was based on numerous factors, including extensive surveys, direct feedback from our industries and other stakeholders, as well as the expected decrease in participation due to the challenges presented by the COVID-19 pandemic.
