naqabatPoultry Syndicate: The sector is suffering huge losses due to the drop in prices, and the farms stopping work in the South and Bekaa

The Lebanese Poultry Syndicate, headed by William Boutros, announced in a statement, "The poultry sector has suffered huge losses, mainly due to the drop in chicken prices, which have become less than the cost of production, as well as due to the farms stopping work in the South and Bekaa, and a large number of them have been damaged." It indicated that "the aggression on the South and Bekaa led to the farms and production units stopping work, and this situation has caused farmers huge losses that they cannot afford to bear."

The union revealed a set of factors that led to a significant decrease in domestic consumption, namely: "The critical situation and the danger that the country is going through at various levels have negatively affected the psychological factor and the social and living conditions. Noting the displacement of about 1.2 million Lebanese, which led to a radical change in their consumption patterns, the departure of more than 630 thousand people from Lebanon, the lack of tourism, and a significant decrease in the operation of the restaurant sector, with the closure of a significant number of restaurants." It explained that "these factors combined led to a significant decrease in domestic consumption, and this was accompanied by a large surplus in production, which led to a decrease in chicken prices to less than the cost of production." It warned that "the current situation we are going through will lead to the poultry sector as a whole incurring large losses, which will affect all farmers and producers who will face extremely difficult conditions." The union concluded its statement by saying: "Despite all of this, the sector continues to operate and performs its basic function to the fullest extent, in terms of producing poultry and offering it in the domestic market to preserve and protect the food security of the Lebanese."
