The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) has forecasted that Saudi Arabia’s wheat production will increase by 25% during the new planting season, which began last November, raising local wheat output to 1.5 million tons compared to 1.2 million tons in the previous season.
A report issued by the USDA, reviewed by Al Arabiya Business, indicated that the production for the new season is expected from cultivation on slightly less than 600,000 acres, with an average yield of 3 tons of wheat per acre.
The report added that the Saudi Ministry of Environment, Water and Agriculture is responsible for annually setting the production quota, adjusting the maximum production either by decreasing or increasing it according to groundwater water quotas and the global supply of wheat.
