Russia is close to signing a new fishing agreement with Morocco for a period of four years, granting the right to catch between 90,000 and 100,000 tons of fish annually in Morocco's exclusive economic zone.

The Russian government has requested the Federal Agency for Fisheries in Russia to sign the draft agreement with Morocco "after negotiations."
A decision from the Russian government was signed on April 4 of this year and published on the official legal information website, along with the draft agreement. The previous agreement between Morocco and Russia, which came into effect in 2020, has now expired, according to the Moroccan news site "Hespress."
The initial draft of the new agreement specifies that the annual fishing quota for Russian vessels in Morocco's exclusive economic zone will be about 90,000 tons per year, with the possibility of adjustments up or down, but not exceeding 100,000 tons.
Under the new agreement, 10 Russian vessels will be allowed to fish in Moroccan waters during the first year, and the number of vessels for subsequent years will be determined by the Russian-Moroccan fishing committee.
The fixed annual fee for Russian vessels to access Moroccan waters has been set at approximately $7.75 million, with vessel owners required to pay fishing license fees and 17.5% of the total value of the annual fish catch.
