During the VIV Europe in Utrecht on May 20-22nd, Viscon Hatchery Automation will introduce a new product line that revolutionises the process of egg handling in the transfer area of a hatchery. It will ensure a maximum hygiene level and accuracy during vaccination and transfer of eggs. This improves animal welfare and helps reduce the use of antibiotics. 

Handling of eggs following the traditional procedure is a risky process, when it comes to cross contamination and spread of bacteria. This because infertile and rotten eggs can break or explode during take-out, injection and transferring and the fact that in most cases rotten eggs are transferred to the hatcher baskets. This causes chicks to hatch in a hazardous environment which can result in bacterial infections and an increase of first week mortality. 

One of the innovations that will be introduced is The Live Embryo Detection®. This system accurately indicates which eggs hold a living embryo by the use of a heart beat sensor and also classifies the “dead” eggs in to infertile, early and late dead embryos. Whereas traditional systems can only identify fertility and early dead eggs by means of candling technology. This knowledge will be used to selectively handle the eggs during following processes of vaccination, transfer and waste handling. The product line can process up to 70.000 eggs per hour, depending on the application.

  This new product line will be marketed in a new company of the Viscon Group named VINOVO. This company will focus on new technologies and production processes that will improve the health and welfare of chicks starting from the earliest stage in the hatchery.
